The HM2.2 Black Box is a very special limited edition: it was one of our first ‘Performance Art’ pieces, created with our friend Alain Silberstein.
Alain Silberstein is widely known for his bold use of colour and pattern, and one might have expected him to transform the already unconventional HM2 into an even crazier Machine. But no, he came up with the “Black Box”, all Bauhaus purity and restraint – reminiscent of the miniature box cameras of the 1940s.
You’ll nonetheless recognise Silberstein’s typical style thanks to the touches of primary colours (red, blue and yellow) and shapes (square, triangle and circle). Alain has also hidden his motto on the side of the case: “Le vrai bonheur est d’avoir sa passion pour métier” (“True happiness is making a profession of your passion”).
The HM2 movement – for which we collaborated with star watchmaker Jean-Marc Wiederrecht – is one of our most complex in terms of horological complications. On the left dial, “slow time” displays a retrograde date and moon phase indicator; on the right, “immediate” time with instantaneous jumping hours surrounded by retrograde minutes.
The HM2.2 Black Box was limited to only 8 pieces. First presented in 2009, it is almost impossible to find today.
